Jennifer Farley of Laughing Lion Design

My name is Jennifer Farley, I live in Ireland and I teach a design course called New Media Creative Design. Specifically I teach Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash. I also have a small web and graphic design company called Laughing Lion Design and I write a Photoshop and Design tutorials blog which is located here : http://www.laughingliondesign.net/blog

Why do you blog?
I started blogging to try and bring some interested parties to my website to get some more design work.

If you only had time to read three blogs a day, which ones would they be?
I tend to look at different sites and blogs every day rather than just a few favourites. I like designmeltdown.com , smashingmagazine.com , I also like forums like sitepoint.com.

How long have you been using Photoshop/been a photographer?
I’ve been taking photographs since I was about 7. My dad use to process his own black and white stuff in my brothers bedroom and that’s when I was given my first camera. I think it was a Vivitar with 110 mm film. I first started using Photoshop around version 5. I had been using Paint Shop Pro before that. I loved Photoshop right away and even now am very pleasantly surprised that my career revolves around it.

What type of camera(s) do you shoot with?
Olympus E300 and a Canon Sureshot A50

Mac or PC?
PC

What is your favorite piece of photo or computer equipment (other than your camera)?
My graphics tablet.

What piece of equipment would you most like to get but don’t have?
Lots of really long lenses.

What advice do you have for a novice creative professional/photographer?
Learn from other people, try out what other professionals do, practice, adapt what you’ve learned and make it your own and keep practicing.

What inspires you to create?
Cinema, tv, web, magazines.

What would be your most important piece of advice about life?
Ehm, it’s too short to argue about silly stuff.

Where would you most like to live (other than where you live now)?
Somewhere sunny, or at least sunny during Summer.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Watch movies, walk, travel.

What talent would you most like to have?
I would LOVE to be able to sing. (my husband would love that too.)

From Inside the Actors Studio:
What is your favorite word? My favourite word TODAY is worksharing. Tomorrow it will be something else.
What is your least favorite word? It’s very rude and I can’t bring myself to type it.
What turns you on? Competence. (And backrubs.)
What turns you off? Vanity
What sound or noise do you love? A wine cork being popped open.
What sound or noise do you hate? Copper coins being rubbed together.
What is your favorite curse word? Shite
What occupation other than your own would you like to attempt? Pilot
What occupation would you not want to participate in? Anything to do with lots of face to face customer dealings.
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? C’mon in, everyone’s here that you’ve missed over the last few years.
