Oldenburg’s “Free Stamp”

This is the “Free Stamp” by sculptors Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen. Kim and I stopped off in Cleveland on our way back from Nebraska on Monday to see this oversized (28 ft. 10 in. x 26 ft. x 49 ft. (8.8 x 7.9 x 14.9 m)) piece. I had seen it in passing during an international conference in 2000, to which I was a delegate but hadn’t really thought much about it.

On this second visit I got to take a closer look. Kim is an Oldenburg fan which made it even more interesting as I learned more about his work and got to see the excitement in her eyes at seeing one of his pieces in person for the first time.

So, if any of you ever go to the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, take a short walk up the street to check this thing out.
