P&P Blogger Profile: Richard Charpentier
Richard Charpentier of The Airstream Chronicles Continued
Bio: I’m bad at this, so a friend had done one for a gallery opening that I carried over. My bio link is: http://richcharpentier.com/about/
Why do you blog?
Years ago I kept a Trail Journal of my trip along the Appalachian Trail. I enjoyed doing daily entries from the trail. When I developed a rare auto immune disorder, ended up divorced and seeking a new way of life I decided to blog the journey. I spent a year traveling the country with my Airstream looking for a new place that would work for me, and the blogging was almost therapy to me. Now it’s evolved from my search to find a new place in the world to the “moving forward” after a rough couple of years.
If you only had time to read three blogs a day, which ones would they be?
Photoshop Insider (it’s a daily read)
Prudent Bear (not so much a blog)
and Ben Willmore’s blog (really enjoy playing with HDR).
How long have you been using Photoshop/been a photographer?
I started shooting seriously in 2002. Northern NH is full of Moose, and I wanted to photograph them along with loons. Fun, fun!
What type of camera(s) do you shoot with?
Canon 10D, 30D, 40D, and SD550. Had a Canon on the AT in 2001 and it survived the trip. Figured I’d stick with something that works!
Mac or PC?
Mac all the way. Certified Windows Admin too, but Mac is my choice.
What is your favorite piece of photo or computer equipment (other than your camera)?
My MacBook Pro. It’s my computer, TV, entertainment center, communications hub, blogging tool, etc!
What piece of equipment would you most like to get but don’t have?
I’d love to get a 5D.
What advice do you have for a novice creative professional/photographer?
Heck, I’m a novice. Keep shooting guys, and enjoy it. Only you need to like what you shoot. It’s a great hobby!
What inspires you to create?
Arizona! This place is amazing, and you can’t help but come away with mind blowing shots!
What would be your most important piece of advice about life?
Both good things and bad things happen. Don’t dwell on one or the other. You got to keep moving forward. Love the movie “Meet the Robinsons.” “Keep Moving Forward.
Where would you most like to live (other than where you live now)?
Back on the road, traveling the country again. Now that I feel physically better I’m ready to explore more again.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time! I take pictures, hike, and nap. Spare time is rare. Starting a new gallery / print shop, work full time, and consult on the side. I need a vacation. 🙂
What talent would you most like to have?
I wish I knew how to fix a car engine, but I don’t!
