"God Came to Me At Last" 12-11-01 Tune: UMH #534,437 1.God said, “Go out and stand upon the mountain. Soon shall I be there and I will pass by.” And so I went out on that mountaintop To see my Lord, my comfort, and my friend. There came a wind so strong it broke the stones But God was not within that wind I saw. 2.Still I did wait for God to visit me I sat and watched for him to pass me by. And what came next, it caused my heart to shudder I thought ‘twas God began to shake the ground. But it was not my God who caused the quaking So I sat down upon the ground to weep. 3.As I sat there, in hopes of God to see There came a flame so great and oh so strong. Oh surely here is where my guardian lives Like Moses’ bush here God I too will find. But oh my Lord in it I could not find you. Though I had hope the Lord did not pass by. 4.Where is my God who’s Lord of all my heart, If not in wind or fire or constant quakes? But what then came, it took my breath away It was the Lord; God came to me at last! For He was there not in the fire or shaking But in the quiet of my tender heart.
