"Whispers in the Dark"

Throughout the daylight hours I searched
After the greatest prize of all time.
I looked and I looked but to no avail,
I pursued but could not find.

With all of my strength I traveled on - across all terrain
I journeyed far and I journeyed wide without a bit of success.
Stalking here and hunting there for what it was I sought
Trying to attain the grand reward that would all impress.

Locating nothing and the sky growing dark
I resolved to pause till the morrow.
I walked alone in want of hope,
MY heart full of grief and sorrow.

As the night arose on the tail of twilight
I laid me down upon my bed.
While I quietly rested, there emerged
A sweet, soft sound inside my head.

A voice called out from the midst of my mind
Whispering to me what I should seek.
It told me I should look for the true within,
Instead of without, for the highest peak.

The simple pleasures are to be striven for
For they are best for your yearning soul.
Gaze deep within and listen close
And what you find shall make you whole.
