Faces of a Vanishing World with Joey Lawrence

Be sure to tune your TVs and DVRs to Ovation on Monday September 27th at 10pm for the start of an inside look at the work of Friend-of-the-Blog, photographer Joey L (Interview, Tutorial)

The pilot for the documentary series – commissioned for 4 more episodes – follows Joey and his team on a trip to Ethiopia as he pursues his passion for capturing the images of isolated communities all over the world.

It’s amazing what this 20 year old, self-taught photographer has done so far in his career. He’s traveled the world shooting in breathtaking locales, met and shot some of the most remote villages and peoples possible, and has become the go-to photographer for the entertainment industry shooting for Twilight, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Jonas Brothers, and 50 Cent, among others.

If you don’t get Ovation, have no fear, it will be syndicated on the National Geographic Channel and a few as of yet unconfirmed networks. They will also be releasing a digital download and DVD over on his site.

It’s been two years in the making so please join me on the 27th in watching our friend Joey Lawrence.

The World of Stock Photography

September 10, 2009 in Inspiration, Photography

I’ve been looking into what it takes to get into the stock photography market lately and have found a good place to start.

Awhile back I came across a post by Photoshop & Photography Blogroll member Scott Eccleston of Weekly Photography Tips about an interview he’d listened to about stock photographer extraordinaire Richard Legg. I haven’t delved deep enough, yet, into the vast collection of posts he has on the subject but I think it’s a great resource, not only for stock but for your photography as a whole.

Richard has a whole section of tips and tutorials as well that shows you his lighting setups and explains the descisions he makes to get the results he’s looking for. It’s really insightful and inspirational. Go check him out!

Another resource Scott shared in a related post about microstock photography was an interview he saw with stock photographer Nicole Young where she talks about her experiences as a contributor to iStock Photo.

Have any of you ventured into the world of stock photography? What have you learned? Have any suggestions/tips/warnings that you can share? Where do you contribute your images? How has it worked out for you?
