Guest Post: Your Camera Called – It Wants a Photographer Upgrade – by Kevin Halliburton

March 22, 2010 in Guest Blogger, Inspiration, Photography

If you are like me, you have been shopping for newer and better image making gear in the last 12 months. Maybe you aren’t spending your money at the moment but you have probably at least been enviously tracking some of the latest developments, and wow, have there been some developments! Camera intelligence is rocketing forward at an amazing rate.

It leaves me wondering, when will cameras become intelligent enough to start shopping for better photographers? Think about that possibility for a moment. What upgrades would your camera be shopping for if it was in the market for a photographer upgrade?

This is an actual exercise I give myself at least once a year. I make a photographer upgrade wish list for my camera then I go shopping for the training, information and disciplines I need to better meet those specs.

New Points of View Photo Project Image

February 17, 2010 in Inspiration, Photography, Workflow

Ok, since I haven’t gotten any submissions for this week’s Points of View Photo Project as of yet, and I’ve heard that it wasn’t the best source image to use, I’ve decided to offer up an alternate.

Points of View Project Extended

January 7, 2010 in Photography, Photoshop

We all seem to be getting back on our feet and up to speed with the new year.

So, with that in mind, I’m extending the deadline for the Points of View Photo Project another week to give you all a chance to participate. Scroll down to the post from the 5th to grab the source image and send me your interpretations by next Thursday for inclusion.

In the meantime, come back Monday for our first edition of my new regular guest blogger series!

Have a great weekend!

Points of View Photo Project: #20

December 18, 2009 in Inspiration, Photography

Welcome to week #20 of the Points of View Photo Project!

This will be the final edition of the project for 2009 and it will begin again with a new source image after the new year.

It has been such a treat for me over the course of this project to see all of the different interpretations there have been of my originals. Some have been dramatic, some whimsical, some similar, some surreal, all unique. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the coming weeks.

Correction: Due to an error between the chair and the keyboard, the URL for contributor Hendrik Demey was grabbed incorrectly and is wrong in the gallery. His correct web address is http://hdemey.zenfolio.com/. My apologies.

Points of View Photo Project: #19

December 11, 2009 in Inspiration, Photography

Welcome to the 19th edition of the weekly Points of View Photo Project!

Each week I post a source image that is the out-of-the-camera original and offer it up for anyone who would like to take a shot at processing it. This isn’t a contest, this isn’t about who is better, it’s simply a chance to experiment and have fun.

When everyone is complete, they send me their versions and I post a gallery to share the many perspectives with which a single image might be seen. Take a look at the Points of View Photo Gallery for this week!

If you would like to share a photo you took for us to use as our source image, please send it along to pov@asondmoore.com and we’ll use it in an upcoming week!

Last Chance for This Week’s Points of View!

December 10, 2009 in Lightroom, Photography, Photoshop

Now that I’m back to my regular daily blogging, tomorrow will be our next installment in the Points of View Photo Project.

If you’re new to the Points of View Project, the main purpose is to serve as a creative exercise where multiple people take a common photo they’ve never seen before and experiment with it to something unique. Read the rest of this entry →

Points of View Photo Project: #17

November 13, 2009 in Inspiration, Lightroom, Photography, Photoshop

Welcome to the 17th edition of the “Points of View Project“!

Every Friday I will post a new, out-of-the-camera image for you to download. You may process, manipulate, composite, experiment, or otherwise alter the photo in any way you wish. The hope is that we will get to see a number of different takes on the same image and/or see it used in unique ways as a part of a new image.

This is not a contest or competition. It’s simply a way of stretching our creative muscles and to get those juices flowing through experimentation and seeing how many different interpretations can be applied to the same starting photo. Read the rest of this entry →

Points of View Photo Project - Source Image #16

Click here to open the full-size version to download as your starting point. Have fun with it! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

You can do whatever you want to the photo as long as you use the given photo in some way as part of your final image. In fact, I know the potential is there for a number of people to end up processing the image in very similar ways and getting similar results. Because of that, I’d like to encourage you to experiment and/or take things a couple of steps further to really challenge yourself to make it truly unique.

Once you have worked with the image as much as you feel it needs, simply email it back to me at pov@jasondmoore.com by Wednesday October 28th for inclusion in the project. Please be sure to include your name, location, and website/blog URL so I may properly credit you.

If you would like to send in a photo – unprocessed, straight out of the camera – for us to use as our starting image for a future week, please send me an email to the same address listed above.

I’d like to note that the image(s) that will be used in a given week are only offered for use within the confines of the “Points of View Project“. I am not releasing any rights for use beyond creating your submission. I would also express the same for any starting images that may be provided by other participants. Feel free to re-post your version of the image on your site to share your participation in the project. I just ask for a link back here when you do.
