Portfolio Reviews

February 8, 2011 in News, Personal, Photo Review, Photography, Review

In the midst of some difficult times professionally – being laid off and thrust out into the job market again – I was contacted by a number of my faithful readers with ideas and opportunities to take on some small projects here and there to help out as things were tight.

Of particular note, I’d like to thank Tim Collins of Second Shootr who has contracted me to write a series of guest articles for the blog over there. Also, Friend-of-the-Blog Chris Stern asked me to design the logo for his new blog that will be launched in the coming weeks. I’d also like to highlight another contributor to this blog, Steve Kalman, who approached me about providing him with a professional portfolio review so he could have an objective critique of his work and would be able to get a sense of what works and what might need some improvement. (You can read his testimonial guest post below this one.)

Thank you Tim, Chris, and Steve for your support during these last few weeks. It has meant so much!

I would like to go back to Steve’s portfolio review, actually. His feedback about my review gave me a great deal of encouragement to continue to offer such services to the community at-large. To that end, I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that I am now accepting requests for portfolio reviews to help my fellow photographers learn and grow in their craft.

My rate is $99 for up to 10 photos and $15/photo for each additional image. It will include a report with an overall assessment of your work along with an individual review of each photo. Rest assured, I am gentle in my approach, but honest. I try to be as constructive and encouraging as possible without being negative.

If you would like more information or to get started with your review, please contact me at reviews@jasondmoore.com today!

Faces of a Vanishing World

Faces of a Vanishing World with Joey Lawrence

Be sure to tune your TVs and DVRs to Ovation on Monday September 27th at 10pm for the start of an inside look at the work of Friend-of-the-Blog, photographer Joey L (Interview, Tutorial)

The pilot for the documentary series – commissioned for 4 more episodes – follows Joey and his team on a trip to Ethiopia as he pursues his passion for capturing the images of isolated communities all over the world.

It’s amazing what this 20 year old, self-taught photographer has done so far in his career. He’s traveled the world shooting in breathtaking locales, met and shot some of the most remote villages and peoples possible, and has become the go-to photographer for the entertainment industry shooting for Twilight, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Jonas Brothers, and 50 Cent, among others.

If you don’t get Ovation, have no fear, it will be syndicated on the National Geographic Channel and a few as of yet unconfirmed networks. They will also be releasing a digital download and DVD over on his site.

It’s been two years in the making so please join me on the 27th in watching our friend Joey Lawrence.

Jason D. Moore Photography Fan Page

August 5, 2010 in News, Photography, Photoshop

Just a quick one for today…

I know many, if not all, of  you are tied in with Facebook and/or Twitter and a number of you have connected with me on one or more of those networks. In an effort to make the conversation more focussed on digital imaging in all its forms, I have created a Jason D. Moore Photography Fan Page over on Facebook where you will be able to find all of my updates related to this blog, professional work, contests, Photoshop Q&A etc. At the same time, I am going to be sorting through my friend list for my personal profile so that it includes only friends and family. I’m not trying to kick anyone out, per se, just dividing the two worlds up so I can direct my efforts in a more focused way.

So, with no intention to offend anyone, in the next week or so I am going to be cleaning out my friends list and I’d appreciate it if you would head over to my Photography Facebook Page and became a fan so you can keep up with the conversation over there! I hope we can use that space to really engage each other in a more personal way.

I hope to see you there!

Illustrator Eric Maruscak & Time Lapse Photography

April 8, 2010 in Inspiration, Photography

My friend and colleague illustrator Eric Maruscak is a tremendous artist working in a number of different media – from illustration to cartooning to digital painting to chalk art. And, as I’ve said many times before, I am so lucky that I get to watch him do his thing with his commercial work at our day job.

One of the things Eric does a lot is travel to various fan conventions around the country as a featured guest to produce large chalk murals as a performance piece during the run of the show. (I’d love to see if Scott Kelby and the crew could get him out to Photoshop World… Let the email campaign begin to get him there!) He’s been doing so many of these shows and there’s only so much you can get out of seeing the Flickr photos of the progress and finished pieces.

So, to help you visualize what he does more clearly, Eric has just started producing time-lapse videos of his work to show the entire process from the initial sketch to the 24+ hours of time spent on the floor creating the mural. Right now you can see an initial test he’s been working on, now that he has the equipment he needs and you’ll be able to see an actual piece from start to finish in a couple of weeks when he returns from C2E2 in Chicago.

I think Eric’s first video is great! It’s a fun look at time lapse photography and how one artist uses the medium to share his talent. Keep an eye on PepperInk.com for updated videos in the next couple of weeks and check out his new video below now!

New Page Added: Kudos

March 3, 2010 in Inspiration, Personal, Photography, Photoshop

Not trying to blow my own horn, or anything, but I compiled a number of quotes that some of my fellow bloggers and fans have had to say about my work here on the blog and about my photography as well.

You can check out what they have to say over on a new page called “Photo Quotesin my “About” section. It is, by no means, a complete listing and I’m sure I’ll add to it as we go.

Thank you to everyone who has shared such amazing words of encouragement and support over the years! I truly appreciate it and it keeps me going – especially when I fall into a rut that I don’t think I can get out of.

Jason D. Moore's Monthly Photo Contests

It’s that time again to announce the winner of our Monthly Photo Contest here at Jason D. Moore Photography! There were a lot of excellent photos entered this month and I have definitely seen some growth in the work coming from many of the regular submitters this time around. Nice work!

I have enlisted the help of the January winner, Chris Stern to help in the judging this month – as we will do from here on out with the winner serving as guest judge for the following month. Thank you Chris!

Don’t forget to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post to see what’s in store for the March Photo Contest!

Photo Inspiration Thursday: The Lonely Pixel

February 25, 2010 in Inspiration, Photography

Last week I shared with you a process for Using Textures with Photos on a shot of the Eiffel Tower I took a couple of years ago. It’s a style that I haven’t used that often but has really drawn me in and provided a great deal of creative energy for me.

When I was going through my comments recently, weeding out the spam, I found a comment that seemed legit but was picked up by the filters. I visited the site that was included and was really taken by the imagery that I was presented with by an art photographer that uses this technique perfectly in her work.

Event Photography Tips

February 24, 2010 in Photography

I have recently been asked to consider shooting a class reunion this summer by one of my wife’s colleagues. Always wanting to make sure I’m covering all my bases and that I know what I’d be getting myself into, I reached out to a few wedding photographer friends of mine to see if they had any insights that I might draw from as I make my decision and, potentially, prepare for the job.
